Peter Molyneux’s role in the gaming industry has been one of the longest in the industry’s history, with his first game, The Entrepreneur , being released in 1984. The Entrepreneur , despite Molyneux’s enthusiasm toward it, was a mass commercial failure, said to have sold only two copies (one of which rumored to be from his own mother). After the game’s brutal release, Molyneux left the industry for the next three years, until he teamed up with Les Edgar to begin the game development company Bul...

Dicey Dungeons made deck-building interesting by turning genre conventions on their head in its various playstyles. It is a game that everyone should give a whirl, even if they don't typically like roguelikes or deck-based games. Dicey Dungeons never stops being fun and is far and away the best indie game I played this year. I don't have a joke for this one, but I think the jokes have been on a good roll thus Fable: The Journey represents Microsoft 's latest - and likely final - attempt to prov...

Fable III was another big moment for Molyneux. The game introduced more management features in ruling the kingdom, but was panned for many of the same simplification qualms that plagued the first Fable . It certainly wasn’t poorly received, but it showed that many of these ideas that Molyneux pitches are ones that are much less practical and efficient within the current state of the medium. If the first part of the Molyneux Paradigm is hyping up a game to ridiculous levels, then the second part ...

Getting together with three other friends makes playing Fable Heroes feel less empty, but after one or two levels you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that was having fun. It should be mentioned that the game deals with death in a pretty clever way -- players can still help defeat enemies in a ghostly form, but they cannot collect coins -- but dying will not be too much of a worry, even on the harder difficulties. Hopping online, on the other hand, devolves into running around trying to snipe co...

This idea continues with microtransactions, something that Molyneux has been dead-set on improving. Trust me, I don’t like how microtransactions are being used today , but Molyneux has been working on ways to use them without letting them lean toward the realm of exploitation. He’s condemned the use of microtransactions in the mobile version of Dungeon Keeper , claiming they are not consumer-friendly, but he wants to find a way to make them palatable to an audience. That’s become something of an...

Capcom had a presence at E3, most notably revealing Monster Hunter World , but one of the company's biggest franchises, Resident Evil , wasn't given any love at the show. Capcom didn't pull the curtain back on Resident Evil 7 's Not A Hero DLC as some expected, and it also failed to unveil the Resident Evil 2 remake, a game that fans have been waiting to see for years now. The Resident Evil 2 remake has been in the works for a couple of years, so a trailer or something official seems like it cou...

To be fair, we were warned ahead of time that Death Stranding wouldn't be at E3 2017. Even so, Hideo Kojima's reputation for tricking fans meant that there was still a slim possibility the game would make a surprise appearance during Sony's E3 press conference. Unfortunately, Death Stranding was nowhere to be seen at the show, meaning fans are still largely in the dark about its gameplay features, story, and whether or not there is any truth to the Emma Stone casting rumo One way Nintendo has be...
